Problems in Mesopotamia

It is 3500 BCE and I am in Mesopotamia. The problem settling in Sumer is the water. Where I am trying to live the land is located in the low plains called Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia means the land between two rivers. The two rivers are called Tigris and Euphrates Rivers.

The water supply is uncontrollable in Mesopotamia. The farmers are having a difficult time because they cannot control the water. The rain floods into the two rivers and they overflow. All the water destroys the crops.

  1. Sorry to hear about your problem. To control the water so you can farm you should build levees. You can build the levees along the rivers to prevent the rivers from flooding. This way when the land is dry you can poke holes in the levees and always have water for farming.

Another solution to your problem can be maintaining the irrigation systems. You can get people from other villages to help you clear the silt from the canals to keep them from clogging.

  2. I agree with Daniela! The creation of levees and irrigation systems are very important to the survival of the Mesopotamians. Perhaps creating laws to make it mandatory to create levees and maintain irrigation systems would be the best thing to do. What do you think?
